From 14 October 2017 until 21 January 2018, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen presents an exhibition of work by the Danish-Israeli artist Tal R, entitled Academy of Tal R, developed in partnership with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art near Copenhagen.
The artist is famous in the Scandinavian countries and has acquired an international public of collectors. Tal R (Tel Aviv, 1967) is known as a ‘natural’. His work encompasses a wide range of methods and techniques, in which everything is made by hand. What is striking is his alternating between different materials and media such as painting, textiles, drawing, sculpture and printmaking, while nonetheless producing a highly cohesive oeuvre. The exhibition features works from the mid-1990s to his most recent, previously unexhibited works. His works are often compared to those of artists such as Edvard Munch, Asger Jorn and Georg Baselitz. Tal R has a natural talent for creating images in their simplest and purest form, reminiscent of the works of Picasso and the Dada, in particular Frencis Picabia, but also of lesser-known artists such as the American painter William Copley.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a 300-page catalogue.
